The Facts

Arkansas State University is a rather moderately-sized, public institution located in the town of State University, Arkansas, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 10,000 students. The university's graduate business program, however, is significantly smaller, and is home to about 55 graduate business students. Approximately 90% of the currently enrolled students have had an average of about 5 years of full-time professional experience, a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee when reviewing applications. Perhaps as a result of this fact, the average age of enrollment is around 28, however, ages range from 21 to 50. Approximately 20% of the currently enrolled students entered directly from undergraduate school, while about 3% of the students already have a graduate degree of some sort. The university's graduate business program is perhaps best known for its emphasis on problem solving and decision making in order to prepare students for management and leadership roles in the business world. The school offers graduate business degrees in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), as well as joint degrees in education (MSE in Business Education and SCCT in Business Administration and Business Education). The school also offers its students plenty of internship opportunities as well as work-study programs. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of management information systems, finance, as well as management.

Admission to Arkansas State University's graduate business program is fairly competitive among the relatively few students who apply; last year, over 100 students applied for admission to the school and approximately 52 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 28 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.2, as well as an average GMAT score of about 520. The admissions committee requires all applicants to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 2.75, as well as a minimum GMAT score of at least 400. Students are able to begin their graduate course work in the fall, spring, or summer, and are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis.

The university's graduate business program has 52 full-time faculty members, all of whom hold a doctorate; there are no part-time faculty members. The average graduate business class usually numbers around 25 students, and most faculty members teach an average of 4 courses at any given time.

Placement Services

The school has rather limited placement services as most of the students are already fully employed. The services that are available are available to both current students and alumni, and include career counseling, resume critique and referral, as well online job listings and networking events.

What's Good

"The required courses aren't ridiculously extensive, so you have time to really get into your specialty."

"The tuition isn't terrible here, and there is a good amount of financial aid available to graduate students."

What's Bad

"People can get very competitive here, it's kind of ridiculous."

"There isn't a whole lot of on campus graduate housing, which is annoying."

"The administration seems more concerned with the undergraduate students."
