The Facts

Baruch College is a rather large, public institution located in New York City, and is part of the larger City University of New York system that includes several campuses throughout the New York metro area. Baruch College has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 15,500 students, however, the graduate Zicklin School of Business is significantly smaller, and is home to about 1,875 graduate business students. Approximately 96% of the currently enrolled students have already had an average of 5 years of full-time professional experience, a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee when reviewing portfolios. Perhaps as a result of the fact, the average age of enrollment is around 27, however, ages range from 20 all the way up to 57. Approximately 4% of the currently enrolled students entered directly from undergraduate school, while about 14% already have a graduate degree of some sort. The Zicklin School of Business is perhaps best known for its close ties with the Manhattan business community, as well as for its combination of theory with practical, real-world application. The school offers graduate business degrees in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science in Accounting, business and computer information (MS), as well as a doctoral program, and a joint degree in law (JD/MBA). The school also offers plenty of internship opportunities, as well as foreign exchange programs with France and Germany. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of finance, marketing, accounting, international business, as well as computer information systems.

Admission to Baruch College's Zicklin School of Business is quite competitive among the many students who apply; last year, over 1,783 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 1,030 of those students were admitted. Eventually however, only about 573 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.2, as well as an average GMAT score of about 570. The admissions committee requires all applicants to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 2.75, and a minimum GMAT score of at least 500. Students are able to begin graduate course work in either the fall or the spring, and are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis.

The Zicklin School of Business has 203 full-time faculty members, of whom 94% hold doctorate degrees. The school is also home to 160 part-time faculty members, of whom 84% hold a doctorate. The average graduate business class usually numbers around 41 students, and most faculty members teach an average of 18 credit hours at any given time.

Placement Services

The school has rather extensive placement services available to both current students and alumni. These services include career counseling, networking, as well as resume critique. Last year, 71 companied were actively recruiting on campus, 96% of which were national corporations. The majors most in demand by these companies included accounting, information systems, as well as finance. The average starting salary if the most recent graduating class was around $62,000, however, it ranged from $38,000 to $135,000.
