The Facts
Loyola Marymount University is a rather moderately sized, private institution affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church, and is located in the city of Los Angeles, California. The university has a combined undergraduate and graduate enrollment of over 6,600 students, however, the graduate MBA program is significantly smaller, with a current enrollment of only about 280 graduate business students. Approximately 90% of the currently enrolled students have had an average of 4 years of full-time professional experience, which is a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee. As a result of this fact, the average entrance age for graduate business students is around 27, however, the ages range from 21 all the way up to 54. About 17% of the currently enrolled students entered directly from undergraduate school, while approximately 4% already have a graduate degree of some sort. The school is perhaps best known for its management oriented educational approach with stress on a mixture of lectures and case studies. Loyola Marymount University's MBA program offers graduate degrees in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), as well as a joint degree in law (MBA/JD). The school also has an executive MBA program as well as foreign exchange programs with 2 countries. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of international business, finance, management, marketing, financial strategy, mergers and acquisitions, power politics, as well as negotiation and marketing strategy.
Admission to Loyola Marymount University's MBA program is extremely competitive among those who apply; last year, over 330 students applied for admission to the program, and approximately 190 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 114 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.26, and an average GMAT score of 565. The admissions committee requires all applicants to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 2.0 and a minimum GMAT score of at least 400. Students are able to start their graduate degree work in either the fall, spring or summer, and admissions decisions are usually made on a rolling basis.
Loyola Marymount University's MBA program has 37 full-time faculty members, all of whom hold a doctorate degree. The program is also home to 25 part-time faculty members, of whom 39% hold a doctorate. The average size of a graduate business class is approximately 25 students, and most professors teach an average of 3 courses at a time.
Placement Services
The MBA program has a rather extensive placement program; last year, 35 companies actively recruited on campus, 10% of which were national corporations. The majors most in demand by these companies were finance as well as information and decision sciences. The placement services are also available to all MBA program alumni for an unlimited number of years after obtaining their degree.
