The Facts

The University of California, Los Angeles, is a rather large, public institution located, obviously, in the city of Los Angeles California, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 36,890 students. The John E. Henderson Graduate School of Management, however, is significantly smaller, and is home to approximately 1,136 graduate business students. Over 98% of the currently enrolled students have had an average of 5 years full-time professional experience, which is a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee. As a result of this fact, the average age of enrollment is around 28, however, ages within the program range from 22 to 36. Approximately 2% of currently enrolled students enter directly from undergraduate school, while about 13% of students already have a graduate degree of some sort. The Henderson Graduate School of Management is perhaps best known for its research-based management training that places an emphasis on putting theory into practical situations. The school offers graduate degrees in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), as well as a doctoral program in management and joint degrees in law (MBA/JD), medicine (MBA/MD), computer science (MBA/MA), Latin American studies (MBA/MS), public health (MBA/MPH), as well as urban planning (MBA/MA). Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of finance, marketing, operations, entrepreneurship, as well as international business.

Admission to UCLA's Henderson Graduate School of Management is incredibly competitive among the many students who apply; last year, over 4,570 students applied for admission to the school and approximately 680 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 340 of the accepted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.6, as well as an average GMAT score of about 710. The admissions committee requires that students have a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 2.5, as well as a minimum GMAT score of at least 550. Students are able to start graduate course work in the fall only, and students are notified of their admission status sometime between January and June.

The Graduate School of Management has 85 full-time faculty members, all of whom hold a doctorate degree. The school is also home to 34 part-time faculty members, of whom 35% hold a doctorate. The average graduate business class numbers around 38 students, and most faculty members teach an average of 5 courses at any given time.

Placement Services

The school has rather extensive placement services that are available to both current students as well as alumni for an unlimited amount of time after obtaining their degree. The average starting salary of the most recent graduating class was approximately $85,000, and over 58% of the most recent graduating class were able to find jobs within three months of receiving their degree.
