The Facts

The University of Colorado at Denver is a rather moderately sized, public institution located, obviously, in the city of Denver, Colorado. The university has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 11,280 students, however, the Graduate School of Business Administration is significantly smaller, and is home to about 1,425 graduate business students. Approximately 88% of the currently enrolled students have had an average of 11 years of full-time professional experience, a factor taken into serious consideration by the admissions committee when reviewing applications. Perhaps as a result of this fact, the average age of enrollment is around 33, however, ages range from 22 all the way up to 54. The university's graduate business school is perhaps best known for its mixture of lectures with case study, helping students to apply theories to practical situations. The school offers graduate business degrees in the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science in Accounting (MS), Master of Science in Finance (MS), Master of Science in Health Administration (MS), Master of Science in Information Systems (MS), Master of Science in Management and Organization (MS), Master of Science in Marketing (MS), Master of Science in International Business (MS), as well joint degrees in MBA/MS or MS/MS in accounting, marketing, management, finance, international business, health administration, or information systems. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of finance, health administration, international business, information systems, as well as accounting.

Admission to the university's Graduate School of Business Administration is fairly competitive among the students who apply; last year, over 800 students applied for admission to the school and approximately 720 of those students were admitted. Eventually however, only about 410 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.3, as well as an average GMAT score of about 550. The admissions committee requires all applicants to have a minimum undergraduate GPA of at least a 2.5, as well as a minimum GMAT score of at least 400. Students are able to begin graduate course work in the fall, spring, or summer, and are notified of their admission status on a rolling basis.

The Graduate School of Business Administration has 64 full-time faculty members, of whom 85% hold a doctorate degree. The school is also home to 25 part-time faculty members, of whom 15% hold a doctorate. The average graduate business class numbers around 32 students, and most faculty members teach an average of 4 courses at any given time.

Placement Services

The school has rather limited placement services, however, most graduate business students are already professionally employed. However, these limited services are available to both current students and alumni for an unlimited amount of time after they receive their graduate degree.

What's Good

"The faculty is wonderful, and they really do their best to make classes engaging and useful later on."

"I love the emphasis on case study here. It helps make everything more applicable to real-life."

"Students tend to be really supportive of one another; it's a rather safe environment to play around with different ideas and approaches."

What's Bad

"I wish we had more of a career development office. I think it would help a lot of people who have never received much coaching."

"There are some members of the faculty who are difficult to get a hold of."

"I wish more companies came to recruit here. It would be a lot more convenient."
