The Facts

Pace University is a rather large, private institution located in the town of White Plains, New York, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 14,000 students. The average age of enrollment is around 26, and it is quite rare for any students to enter the school directly from their undergraduate education. The school is perhaps best known for its strong environmental law program, its huge amount of internship, externship, and clerkship opportunities, as well as for its strong ties within the New York legal community. The school offers degrees in the 3 year JD, the 3 year S/JD in environmental law, the LLM in environmental law, the LLM in comparative legal studies, as well as combined degrees in the JD/MBA in conjunction with Pace's New York City campus, the JD/MPA in conjunction with the New York City campus, the JD/MEM in association with Yale University, the JD/MS in conjunction with Bard College, the JD/MA in association with Sarah Lawrence College, as well as the JD/MPH in conjunction with New York Medical College. Some of the most popular programs of study include courses in the areas of civil procedure, commercial law, constitutional law, corporation securities law, criminal law, environmental law, government services, health law and policy, human rights law, intellectual property law, international law, labor law, legal history, property, as well as taxation.

Admission to Pace University's School of Law is quite competitive among the many students who apply; last year over 2,625 students applied for admission to the school and approximately 723 of those students were accepted. Eventually however, only about 180 of the admitted students actually enrolled for the coming semester. The admitted students had an average LSAT score ranging from 154 to 157, as well as an average undergraduate GPA of about a 3.3. Students are notified of their admissions status on a rolling basis, and are able to take advantage of the school's early application program if they so choose.

The school of law has 75 faculty members, all of whom come from very diverse legal and professional backgrounds. Students rave about their accessibility and their willingness to give advice, or even just chat about life with their students. The school has a very manageable student to faculty ratio of about 16:1, and the small classes allow for plenty of discussion and interaction between students and their professors.

Employment Facts

Students at Pace University's School of Law have complained a bit about the availability of jobs after graduation, as a result of the high volume of other law schools in the surrounding areas, however, over 88% of the most recent graduating class were able to find jobs within a few months of receiving their degrees, and had an average starting salary of about $70,000. Students are most frequently hired by employers such as large law firms, large corporations, as well as various government and public interest organizations.

What's Good

"The resources we have here are wonderful, and you have access to a huge amount of legal information and sources."

"The atmosphere is surprisingly noncompetitive, and students tend to be really supportive of one another."

"The fact that New York City is so nearby allows for a huge amount of internship opportunities at prestigious firms."

What's Bad

"There is never enough on campus graduate housing, and it is nearly impossible to find anything remotely affordable off campus."

"The facilities are very very 1970's, and not in a good way."

"The career services, despite its efforts, just can't seem to get a large amount of firms to come and recruit on campus."
